On the last night of this Brighton run, that experiment will have been performed 415 times with 415 different actors. There’s no definitive version. Each performance is a fraction of its whole; the last night in Brighton will be 1/415th of the idea of the show. It resists completion. No results. There’s just this one. Which will be different to that one. And so on.

Tonight’s second actor is
FISAYO AKINADE
Fisayo Akinade is an accomplished stage and screen actor. He is well-known for his role as Mr. Ajayi in the hugely popular Netflix series Heartstopper.
He will next be seen in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut Goodbye June. The film will release in select theatres on 12th December and will premiere on Netflix on 24th December. Fisayo will star alongside, Kate Winslet, Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall and Helen Mirren.
Fisayo’s television breakthrough came in 2015, when he starred as Dean Monroe in Russell T Davies’ critically acclaimed interconnecting dramas Cucumber and Banana. His additional television credits include Apple TV+’s Foundation, BBC’s Showtrial, Starz’ Dangerous Liaisons, Atlanta, Martin’s Close, Silent Witness, A Very English Scandal, In the Dark, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ordinary Lies and Fresh Meat.
Last year, he starred in the UK premiere of the iconic, controversial, ground-breaking and most Tony Nominated play of all time, Slave Play. Jeremy O.Harris’s extraordinary play about race, identity and sexuality in twenty-first century America played at the Noël Coward Theatre. Fisayo’s National Theatre credits include Reverand Hale in The Crucible (also West End), The Antipodes, Antony and Cleopatra alongside Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo and Barber Shop Chronicles. His additional theatre credits include; The Glow, Pigs and Dogs and The Crossing Plays at the Royal Court; Shipwreck at the Almeida; The Way of the World, Saint Joan (Ian Charleson second prize) and The Vote at the Donmar; The Tempest at Shakespeare’s Globe; Barbarians at the Young Vic; As You Like It (Ian Charleson nomination) at the New Wolsey, Ipswich; Refugee Boy and Waiting for Godot at West Yorkshire Playhouse; and Neighbours at HighTide.
Fisayo’s film credits include Grow, Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield, The Isle and The Girl with All the Gifts alongside Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton and Paddy Considine. He also starred as Mercutio in a 2021 filmed version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from the National Theatre, alongside Josh O’Connor and Jessie Buckley. The play was originally planned for a stage production but was adapted into a film during the COVID-19 pandemic shot in an empty National Theatre.
